Sandblasted glass, brieze blocks, directional light 2009
55 x 35 x 35cm (approx)
The structure is a three-dimensional re -visualisation of a plan depicting the layout of an ancient Persian garden, now destroyed. These 'chahar bagh' or four-quartered gardens were created as reflections of paradise on earth. The glass is sandblasted with floral designs taken from old Persian textiles and an excerpt from a poem by Hafiz. The contrast of flowing, vegetal design and the geometric and architectural is a central component in much historic Persian art.
